We have specialist tutors dedicated to supporting home educating parents with all areas of learning for their children
Home educating your child can be either an exciting or daunting prospect. Whether you have been home educating for a while, or are only at the point of considering it to be an option, we have specialist home education tutors available who can support you with every element of your homeschooling journey through what can sometimes feel like uncharted waters.
An increasing amount of parents are choosing to home educate their children. This can be for a wide variety of reasons. Anne Longfield, the Children’s Commissioner, has stated very clearly that, “there are clear indications that the growth in home education is related to the rise in children leaving school due to their needs being unmet” which is a sad indictment on the system.
Home educating your child is not a small decision, and while it may seem intimidating, it can be incredibly rewarding, especially depending on the reason for considering removing your child. If you do choose to start learning from home, our team of tutors are here to offer support and knowledge through every step, and support you in your learning style.
Legally, home educators are only required to be literate and numerate to the level required for their age, ability and any special needs they have. Everything else, including exams, are technically optionally, and the decision on if & when the child takes them is the parent's. The teaching style is also entirely up to the parent, and while some parents choose to stick to the national curriculum, others choose to use other approaches for teaching their children. Provided that they are following the law, every teaching style or method is just as valid as the rest.
No matter where you are on your homeschooling journey, from considering home education to having been home educating for years, we are here to support you with your homeschooling!
When first considering home educating your child, a concern for some parents is how they're going to take exams outside of school. Fortunately, it is not as daunting as it may seem, with many schools accepting external candidates to sit in on exams and there are specialist exam centres that take candidates for a wide range of subjects at both GCSE & A Level. The only downside is that it costs to sit an exam as an external candidate, along with costs of the materials to learn the subject, such as textbooks.
In most situations there is no funding available for parents who are home educating their children but there are some exceptions. These largely apply where students are not off-rolled from a school and where there might be additional learning needs and/or disabilities.
